50 years of Driade. Twixt past and future

Driade celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Salone del Mobile 2018 with a visionary project inspired by the moon landing and curated by Gianluigi Ricuperati. It also paid homage to the ability to forecast trends that has always distinguished the work of its founding partners (Enrico Astori, Antonia Astori and Adelaide Acerbi Astori), with the retrieval of the original logo and the re-edition of some of the most iconic pieces in the company’s history.

The Driade Moon Mission project, staged at the Cinema Arti in Milan during the trade fair was simply stunning. An imaginary lunar set featuring a number of masterpieces, reinterpreted for the occasion by the Nucleo studio, evoked the years of the great shows with which the brand, launched in 1968, wrote some of the most important pages in the history of design, helping to define a design culture that goes way beyond mere production. With the accent on the powerful drive for exploring new worlds that saw Driade as one of the pioneers of modular systems during the Seventies and, later, trialling some of the most interesting expressive vocabularies in contemporary design (from that of Philippe Starck to that of Kazuyo Sejjma) during the decades to follow, the company earned its reputation for being a workshop constantly in progress.
