Claesson Koivisto Rune
A design style defined by colour, form and essentiality

As a protagonist and promoter of a sophisticated culture of Nordic design and architecture, the Claesson Koivisto Rune practice conquered the international scene in just a few years, thanks to its huge aesthetic sensitivity and a style capable of innovating tradition. Paola Antonelli (Senior Curator of the Department of Design at MoMA in New York) described its architectural vocabulary as “the epitome of aesthetics of the new millennium,” with reference to its gift for interpreting and synthesising contemporaneity.

The practice was set up in 1995 by partners Mårten Claesson, Eero Koivisto and Ola Rune and rapidly achieved international success as a multidisciplinary practice with an equal emphasis on architecture and design.

Claesson Koivisto Rune was the first Swedish practice to exhibit in the international section of the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2004. It has produced multi-award winning projects, such as the Tind Prefab collection of prefabricated houses for Fiskarhedenvillan, Widlund House, a private residence on the island of Öland, the Örsta Gallery in Kumla, the Sfera Building culture house in Kyoto and the Nobis Hotel in Stockholm. It has also worked with a great many international companies, including Arflex, Asplund, Blueair, Boffi, Capdell, Cappellini, Casamania, David design, Discipline, Dune NY, Fontana Arte, Kasthall, Living Divani, Offecct, Paola Lenti, Petite Friture, Swedese, Tacchini and Wästberg.

The work of this trio of architect-designers has garnered numerous accolades, including the German Design Award 2011 (Gold and Silver) from the Federal Republic of Germany, the Elle Deco (Sweden) Designer of the Year 2011 and Furniture of the Year 2012 awards, the Elle Décor Italia Designer of the Year and Best Seating 2014 awards, and the Red Dot Design Award – Best of the Best 2014, thus becoming the first ever practice to be assigned the Red Dot in five different categories.
